Situation
A leading provider of Denmark’s electricity and gas transmission was dealing with rapid growth and greater complexity in its external environment. Its technology infrastructure was growing rapidly to deal with these challenges, but its project execution capability was limited and not growing at the same rate. As a result, these pressures were exposing issues in the existing operational framework and making it harder to deliver projects at the required pace.
To help it keep up with demand, the organisation needed clearer governance, better collaboration across teams and a more structured way to refine its operating model.
Approach
Rather than introducing broad change, the team concentrated on the critical issues that would improve execution and forecasting. As such, Valcon worked with the client to identify the key issues in the current operating framework and take targeted corrective action.
The work focused on strengthening project governance, improving collaboration across the organisation and creating governance for the ongoing refinement of the operating model. The result was a significant increase in project completion, a stronger foundation for managing future demand and the creation of a reliable basis for forecasting.
Results
The work delivered clear operational improvements:
- Annual project completions increased from 3 to 29.
- Approved business cases increased from 56 to 67.
- Approved project mandates increased from 61 to 75.
- A 24-month forecasting foundation was established, giving the organisation a stronger basis for planning and prioritising future work.
