Situation
A leading provider of railway infrastructure in the Netherlands needed clearer insight into the cost and planning of its GSM-R (global system for mobile communications in railway) programme, which supports safety-critical communication across the rail network.
The client was upgrading around 300 existing networking sites as part of a nationwide effort to optimise its GSM-R network and improve coverage. The programme needed reliable insight into costs, savings and planning decisions, but dashboarding and reporting had not been implemented because the expertise they needed was not available internally.
Approach
Valcon worked with the client and third-party data owners to develop and implement a Power BI reporting solution that monitors programme costs and planning. The report made it easier to see the short and long-term cost implications of decisions made during the replacement planning process for the radio network.
Through this approach, Valcon helped the organisation turn fragmented programme data into practical reporting, to give teams the visibility they needed to optimise delivery, improve coverage and prioritise their work across regions.
